The exhibition of Japanese Art and Japanism held at Bilbao Fine Arts Museum showed the public, for the first time ever, most of the objects making up this collection “Oriental Art Palace” that belongs to the Museum. It consists of 291 works of extreme-oriental art, most of them, 221, belong to the Japanese art.
The exhibition represents the main characteristics of the Japanese aesthetic that could be summed up in a sentence by philosopher Suzuki Daisetsu: “Beauty is only skin-deep, true beauty lies within each individual”
The publication of its catalog has meant a considerable effort. With a format of 245 x 270 cm it compiles 554 color illustrations on its 584 pages.
