About the Project

This project by Nicolás Janowski, a photographer who specialises in documentary photography and also an anthropologist, includes a photo installation titled “Adrift in blue”, a website at adriftinblue.com and a book titled “Fin del Mundo” published by Chaco and printed by Grafilur Arte Gráfico.

With a voyage through the imagery of Tierra de Fuego and over the pages of the “Fin del mundo” publishing project, the artist invites us to reflect upon the concept of the “known”, which for the reader may be a subjective perception and dependent upon their personal experience.

Alongside Janowski’s photographs –with their stunning use of a cool, almost icy, intensely bleak blue– there are also fragments of text taken from the travel logs of a number of expeditions around Tierra de Fuego at different moments in history. The texts accompany us over the pages to illustrate the vision-perception of the “end of the world” that the travellers had.

The work has recently been awarded the “Premio de Fotolibro Latinoamericano 2017″ at the Latin American photography symposium organised by the Cuatro Caminos Photo Museum.
